Security
Last updated September 2026
Your account and spending data are personal. Here is how BiteWise protects them.
Account security
- Authentication is handled by Firebase Authentication. Passwords are hashed and never stored or visible in plain text, including to us.
- All traffic between your device and BiteWise is encrypted over HTTPS.
- Email verification helps confirm accounts belong to real CU students.
Data access
Your data is protected by database security rules that only allow you, or authorized BiteWise admins, to read your information. Backend services that write sensitive data, like subscriptions, operate through restricted, server-side access only.
Payments
Payments are processed by Paystack, a PCI-DSS compliant payment provider. BiteWise never receives, sees, or stores your card number, CVV, or full payment details.
What you can do
- Use a strong, unique password for your BiteWise account.
- Never share your login credentials with anyone, including people claiming to be BiteWise staff.
- Sign out of BiteWise on shared or public devices.
Reporting a security issue
If you believe you have found a security vulnerability in BiteWise, please email us directly rather than posting it publicly. We take reports seriously and will respond promptly.
